The Concert Flute
The concert flute is the most popular flute played by flautists. It is a transverse (side-blown) instrument, that generates sound from the flautist blowing air into the instrument, where it hits a sharp edge, making vibrations that produce sound. It is a C instrument, which means that they are tuned to the key of C. It plays in the treble clef and can play three octaves. Opening and closing the flute's keys changes the pitch, making different notes. The flute is a popular instrument in orchestras, flute choirs, bands, jazz bands, and as a solo instrument.
