Flute Cleaning Rod
It's very important to clean your flute to prevent discolouration, stickiness and damage.
If you share your flute with someone else, you should be disinfecting the mouthpeice before you play. You can do this with a few sprays proper instrument disinfectant or a small drop of dish soap, and warm water. Make sure that all the soap is off before drying it with a cloth or paper towel.
After playing your flute, it's important to clean out any liquid in your flute. The liquid could damage the pads underneath the keys. The pads will swell up and they'l unevenly cover the keys. You use a flute cleaning rod, and you insert it into each piece of the flute after you've taken it apart. Be careful that you don't hit or move the tuning cork in the head joint. Don't leave a damp cloth in your flute. If one of your keys is sticky, clean it out with a piece of paper money. You put it under the key, close the key, and wiggle the paper a few times.
You can also wipe the fingerprints and lip prints off of your flute with a damp cloth. Don't let the cloth get snagged on anything. Never grease your flute.
If your flute sounds strange, bring it to a flute repair specialist or tell your teacher.
